In the arctic tundra that is currently New York; the polar bears shied away and the fashion elite came out to play. That’s right folks it’s that time of year again, NEW YORK FASHION WEEK!! Oh how I look forward to this time of year, dreaming of wearing heavy coats and thick tights whilst sweltering in the southern hemisphere heat (how many days til autumn?).

New York is the first (yellow) cab off the rank for fashion month and the city put its best Manolo forward this season bringing us a myriad of textured sweaters, buttery leather jackets and beautifully draped trousers. For those of you who were wondering…. Minimalist is still the new black this season (oh and black is definitely the new black in the case of Alexander Wang and Vera Wang’s shows) with a big portion of the catwalks showcasing chunky knits, duster coats and tailored suits in grey, beige, navy and maroon.

Victoria Beckham, Opening Ceremony and The Row showed the fashion pack how it’s done with their beautifully chic (and in OC’s case slightly quirky) winter wear which comprised of camel hued coats, thick navy sweaters and comfy (yet chic) slides.

Michael Kors and Jil Sander (Navy) added a little more glitz to their runways and showcased some gorgeous metallics’ mixed with lux textures in rich blues, charcoal and black. Marc by Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger on the other hand brought the drama with their all American Team Spirit vibe; think classy cheerleaders and chic marching bands mixed with mod capes and edgy boots.

My absolute favourites of the week however, were Creatures of the Wind (COTW) and DKNY!! COTW brought an essence of NY street style into their collection showcasing quirky shift dresses and tailored suits with an edge; whereas DKNY pulled out the stops with slouchy essentials like oversized wool coats, roll neck knits and tailored blazers in covetable colours such as cobalt blue, plums and marl greys (this collection alone was enough to make me want to crank the A/C and wear it now!!). On another note the blue buckled boot and white sock combo was on another level!!!!!!

Well, New York, it’s been swell!! Next stop, London town!! Cheerio until then…..

Peace & Love

LGS xx
