Spring is here!!! Well, not quite… We still have to brave the cold for a few months yet folks. I do however have a Spring/Summer fashion fix that will make you want to don your bikinis and sip mojitos by the pool faster than you can say “Is that ice cream low fat?”

The Mercedes Benz Fashion Pack hit Sydney shores recently and graced us with up to the minute trends for SS 14/15. It seems like we don’t have to fret about our existing wardrobes though as there are some trend repeats from seasons past (any fashionistas that like to do the big cull before SS may want to take note). Monochrome and Pastels seem to be a big hit down under and designers have taken the memo by bringing back the trends in a big way. Carla Zampatti filled the runway with an array of dramatic black and white ensembles and Alice McCall wowed the crowd with dreamy gelato hues.

The femme fatales with abs of steel will be psyched to know that the peek-a-boo trend (aka crop tops and cut out dresses) are a winner yet again thanks to Alex Perry, Cameo & Toni Maticevski. Those of you that are planning to spend your winter nights in with pizza and Game of Thrones marathons may want to make sure that you order the thin crust and do some sit ups every time a member of the main cast gets killed off (make it your very own workout “drinking” game) . If you’re not one to bare all, you’ll be happy to know that covering up ‘aint going to get you the “stop being a prude” stare from the general public. The more conservative masculine/varsity trend has firmly planted its oxford clad feet on the ground and seems to be here to stay (as seen in the Macgraw and Dion Lee shows).

Phoenix Keating has also kept it conservative with his quirky ladylike/punk rock collection. Think high collars and midi skirts with an Avant-garde almost Alexander McQueen like twist (Lady Gaga is a fan so that should give you an idea). And lastly for the ladies who like to inject some bright prints and serious quirk into their wardrobes need look no further than Ciara Nolan and Gail Sorronda! Ciara’s collection was chock full of psychedelic colour combos and reptile prints (I must say the T-Rex crop top is completely bonkers and equally as brilliant!!) Whereas Gail’s collection was a little more subdued in terms of colour but just as eccentric in terms of print. Those of you who loved The Little Mermaid as a kid will be a tad obsessed with the theme as many of the pieces were donned with pictures of Sebastian and Arial from the Disney classic (the Arial pinafore and Sebastian tank are at the top of my summer “want” list).

Well, that brings us to the end of yet another fun filled fashion week!! Hope you have enough ammo to keep you going through the grey days and icy nights. Just remember that you have a whole season of winter trends to test drive first… Now where’s that mojito?
