New, New York it’s a hell of a town… it’s the city that never sleeps and come fashion week it kicks into 7th gear. Being a stylist, fashion week is like Christmas (plus Easter and my birthday). There is no feeling like seeing all the amazing pieces for the new seasons to come, strutting down the runway on their beautifully lithe clothes horses.

NY had so many amazing shows this year and in terms of trends there was an underlying theme of luxury and tailoring. It was also more about texture rather than an overkill of prints. Opening Ceremony used their textures beautifully with a mix of quilting, knitwear and leathers which gave us a preppy androgynous almost sports luxe collection. Proenza-Schouler on the other hand, played with volume and prints in similar colour palettes. Victoria Beckham had outdone herself yet again with her brilliantly tailored collection which looked incredibly chic on the catwalk. It made me want to throw away all my clothes and just wear monochrome tailored suits and dresses 24/7 (that’s a big call coming from someone who’s obsessed with the 60’s). Lace also popped up on the runway with Alexander Herchovitch and David Tlale both showing their take on the delicate material whereas DKNY really honed in on the sports luxe trend with its slouchy leather trousers and jersey tops.

Then there was Alexander Wang who just nails it every time, his collection was androgynous, quirky, chic, tailored, colourful, preppy… I could go on and on. You’d think so many trends could not possibly mix but he did it with ease and everything was still cohesive and appealing! A definite stand out! All in all New York really represented the chic yet cool aesthetic we have come to know and love…
